Lamp Revamp

I found this lamp MONTHS ago at the D.I. I loved the shape and style but not so much the dull color. But I knew I could do something with it.  As I was unpacking the other day, I found my gold leaf rub n buff.

I decided the poor lamp had sat in the attic for too long.  So I grabbed a rag and started rubbing the rub n buff on in circles.

It literally took me 10 minutes and I suddenly had a new lamp!

I could have done a few more coats but I kinda liked the rough look it gave having a little dark show through. :)
So I think this lamp cost like $7 at the thrift store. After doing some googling, I couldn't find a brass pharmacy lamp for under $100.  I'm feeling pretty happy with this redo.
Never pass something up because you don't like the color!

DIY Succulent Garden

We all have seen them.  Succulent gardens are pretty prevalent around the internet and we knew we had to have one.  Today we went to Home Depot to get some paint samples for a client and as we walked in, there was a massive display of cacti and succulents.  As we gazed on them with hearts in our eyes, we didn't expect anything to come of it until we realized we would be much happier if we just had some of our own.  So we picked out some of our favorites (that was seriously hard to narrow down) and found some pea pebbles. We stopped by Hobby Lobby and picked out our vessels.  We went with shallow, round, glass bowls.

First we filled our bowls to about a half inch below the brim with potting soil.

Then we arranged our succulents how we thought they would look best.  We made sure the plants that were the same height or like colors weren't right next to each other in order to keep it balanced.

Then with your hand, dig a little hole about the size of the pot your succulent is in and transplant your succulent into the hole. Fill the dirt in and make sure to press it down gently so it stays firm in place.  Continue doing around your bowl until you have placed all of your plants.

Next add your pea pebbles.  We found this small bag at Home Depot and decided to go with white.

It's amazing the difference the rocks made!  We just filled them in all around every plant and pressed them down into the dirt so they would stay put.

We chose a mix of different textured, shaped, and colored succulents and cacti for interest.

It's okay if your succulents hang over the edge.

With everything added together, we spent about $30 each.

So what do you think? Easy enough?

Happy planting! :)

Leather & Wood

I have this bathroom in my house that i just can't decide what i want to do with (don't we all), I saw this adorable shelf that was on Camille Styles website and i knew it would be perfect. I had some left over old fence wood that we found on KSL from a different project, i decided to use that instead of the whitewood board that Camille used. I followed her tutorial pretty closely though, instead of painting the sides of the wood gold i painted the sides of the leather gold with a gold leaf pen. I love the combination of the leather and wood together. It was so so easy and i was pretty excited about how it turned out. I found the dried leaves at Joanns and i decided to paint them gold and put them in a left over frame i had. (I'm a little obsessed with gold) Check out the tutorial for this adorable shelf HERE

Hello lovelies,

I know Bre introduced me to the blog and to say i'm excited is an understatement. I love her so much, she has thee cutest ideas and i am so excited to partner it up with her! anyways i thought i would introduce myself since i am new and all.. ahem i have been married for three years (on the 18th)  to my best friend, we have two doggies stella (hence why keeping stella interiors was so perfect) and penelope. I might be a little obsessed with them. I love interior design and i am so excited to be done with my design degree and getting started on my career. I'll be honest a little nervous but so excited. till then i love to do little projects around my house i have about a thousand projects to in my head at all times. Maybe thats what i get for being dominantly right brained. Im not huge on spelling or punctation so i apologize for my run on sentences, misspellings and or bad grammar i will really try to work on that. I have a thing for elephants, i don't know don't ask. But when i think about riding an elephant one day i sometimes a tear up a little, i know its weird. Anyways just some random weird facts about me, i am so excited to be apart of this and cant wait to share all these ideas i have bottled up in my brain. Thanks for having me xox - Ashlee

New House

I finally feel like I can show you one room of our new house. It is the only room that is feeling somewhat put together and box free... Seriously this has been the longest process of my life. I unpack, organize, and clean for 8 hours a day and it has been 2 1/2 weeks. I'm so exhausted. But it is finally starting to pay off!!
I present you:
Our TV Room

The view from our couch.

Our fireplace.  When I first saw it I thought of the titanic for some reason.  I think it's because it is all built in.

Detail on our fireplace. The metal door can come out but since we never build fires, it stays in.

I love this credenza our TV sits on. They had the house fully furnished with antiques that they said we could use.  But since I have my own furniture, we moved a lot of it out.  This we kept.

I have had my eye on this rug from Ikea for months now.  It is an amazing price for the size but we didn't have enough space for it in our old house so now I'm happy that we finally do.

I rolled it out yesterday and Stella threw up on it. REALLY?? It was only leaves and cleaned up easily. But still. Wood and tile throughout the house and she goes straight to the hour-old rug. Not to mention she hasn't thrown up for months. Law of attraction I guess.

To the left of the couch you can see a door. Our house has 2 front doors. It think this room used to be the parlor or something. There is a huge pocket door that separates it from the rest of the house.  The governor used to live here and I can imagine he held very important meetings in this room :)

I have also wanted some Sanela curtains from Ikea.  I LOVE velvet and as soon as I saw them, I knew I needed them in my house.  This is the perfect window for them because it is across from the TV and puts a massive glare on the screen during the day.  So I needed something thick and light blocking.

The details on our fireplace.  The woman who owns this house told me that this wood work is painted on.  They didn't use stained hardwood back when this house was built and the nice houses had painted wood grain.  It is hard to get a good picture but it is so detailed and amazing to me that they used to do that.  They don't build like they used to.

This is another chair they left us.  It is SO comfortable. I love a good rocking chair.  You can see that my curtains don't go to the floor. Our ceilings are SO tall.  These curtains are hung just barely above the window and still 2 feet away from the ceiling.  They are the longest length from Ikea (98").  I need to get some fabric to sew on to the bottom of them to make them longer.

All of our windows and doors have transoms above them. It is seriously my favorite.  It just adds so much height to the house.

This is the window above our couch.  So pretty.
And here is our dining room I guess.

They left the table and chairs for us which is nice because they totally fit in with the house. (and we don't have any)
That is the rug that used to be in our living room... kinda crazy how small it looks in this house. It used to take up so much room in our old little house.
And that take us to the end of our tour for today.

Ok so there is one and a half rooms for you.  I will continue putting in my 8 hours of organizing and cleaning and hopefully by Monday I can show you a couple more rooms.
Thanks for reading and happy weekend!!

Exciting News....

I have some exciting news for you guys....
I am teaming up with my cute friend Ashlee!!
We are going to be starting a design business together and as part of that, we will be blogging together.  This will take some pressure off of me in the consistent posting department, and you guys will LOVE her style. She has the cutest house and I'm so excited for you guys to get to know her!
So, other than that, we are still moving in and organizing (and by we I mean me) I have hung some pictures and of course I decorated the first day... but it still doesn't feel picture ready.  And has anyone else moved recently?? Did you lose random stuff?? like, hot pads. The first day we were here I made cookies.... couldn't find the oven mitts anywhere. And now that all of my boxes are unpacked, still haven't found them.  I ended up buying new ones yesterday.  And Tom's electric razor... for real? these things were not in a box together. I am missing a box worth of randoms but none of them would be in the same box soooo... I'm convinced my mom or mother in law stole some things as they were helping us ;) (kidding of course)
Ok that was a dumb tangent.
Anyways...  the point of all that was that you should probably be excited for Ashlee to join in.
I forgot to mention, Ashlee has a puppy named Stella too. So it's super meant to be.
Thanks for reading!
